Hope Helps

Last night we played a play-off game for Little League. We went up against our competitors for our first game of the season and won 20 to 4. Later in the season we went against the same team for a Scrimmage. They were a little better. Last night we thought wining would be a piece of triple chocolate cake.

It wasn’t as easy as I thought. They were better than at the Scrimmage. They kept getting runs. We kept having errors like balls passing OUTFIELDERS!! We couldn’t get a hit. It looked bad for us. The situation seemed gloomy.

Our coaches gave us two important pep talks. Finally we tied it in the bottom of the sixth inning taking us to an extra inning.

We never gave hope. Even though we were behind for most of the game we kept digging. They scored two runs but we shut them down. Our batters were walked to tie the game.

Then my teammate got hit and sent the winning run home.

I learned that staying positive, teamwork, and hope can lead to winning even when things seem unwinnable.

Matthew is turning 10 in August 2012. With school out of session for the summer, his mother told him to write every week day. She said it will prepare him for 5th grade.

These are Matthew’s musings of the things he has learned in his (almost) 10 years of life on this planet.

Please join him each week day as he explores the many things he has learned in his own “voice”.

Feel free to comment as it encourages the lad to keep writing!
